Iraq Promotes Liquified Gas for Vehicles

The Undersecretary for Liquidation and Distribution Affairs at Iraq’s Ministry of Oil, Hamid Younis, has said that the shift towards the use of liquified gas for vehicles is a strategic project for Iraq, which promotes sustainable development and supports the national economy, and is supported by the government and the Ministry.

He added that a number of decisions and instructions have been issued that support projects for the use of liquified gas in vehicles.

He made the comments at the opening of a model workshop to install liquified gas systems in vehicles in Taji, north of Baghdad.

BGC Exports first Semi-Refrigerated LPG Shipment

Basrah Gas Company (BGC) has exported its first semi-refrigerated liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shipment from Umm Qasr jetty.

The General Manager of BGC, Malcolm Mays, said the export of the first shipment of semi-refrigerated liquid gas is a great and historical achievement for Basra Gas Company, noting that this came as a result of working hard and continuously to achieve the strategic goal by rehabilitating Umm Qasr jetty and equipping it with chiller units to be used in export operations.

He added that BGC is able to load and export both types of liquid gas: pressurized and semi-refrigerated, through vessels, saying that this step gives the flexibility and the opportunity to triple exports globally via tankers, as it will double the exported quantity per shipment.

Iraq struggles to switch from use of imported fuel to national gas

The Iraqi government is trying to get people to switch from imported fuel to locally produced gas.

All new public transport vehicles must run on liquefied petroleum gas or LPG.

But despite awareness campaigns and government subsidy, users are reluctant to move away from traditional fuel.
