On Saturday, the Iraqi Ministry of Health announced the arrival of the first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for COVID-19 (coronavirus).
It also received another new batch of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.
The Ministry said it plans to vaccinate 12 million citizens this year.

Iraq began Covid-19 (coronavirus) vaccinations on Tuesday, immediately following receipt of its first shipment of vaccines from China’s Sinopharm.
According to a government statement, the first to be vaccinated are healthcare workers.

The Iraqi Cabinet held its weekly meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.
At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister praised the efforts of state institutions and agencies to ensure the implementation of curfew regulations, and thanked all citizens for adhering to preventative health measures.
Following discussions, the Cabinet agreed to authorise the Ministry of Health to purchase the coronavirus vaccine from the Chinese company Sinopharm.
