Weatherford signs 18-Mth Deal in Iraq

Weatherford International has announced that it has signed an 18-month contract with the Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) to provide services and project management for the drilling and completion of twenty wells in the Al-Nasiriyah field in the Dhi Qar province in southern Iraq.

Basim M. Khudair, General Director for IDC, said:

“Signing this contract between IDC and Weatherford is a great accomplishment for both parties. It sets the right ground for our mutual and constructive joint cooperation in the future.”

IDC will provide rigs, civil works and drilling services; Weatherford will provide project management and all other associated services. The operation will be performed with four rigs provided by IDC.

Frederico Justus, President, International Operations, Weatherford, noted:

“This joint operation with IDC is an honor for Weatherford. Together, IDC and Weatherford will work as one team, providing project management solutions that deliver efficient and effective execution of the contract.”

IDC is a leading Iraqi service company focusing on rig services and is a key player in the nationalization program for the country’s oil and gas sector.

IDC to Drill Oil Wells at Nasiriya

The Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) has signed a contract with the Dhi Qar Oil Company to drill 20 wells at Nasiriyah oil field.

Fayyad Hassan Nehmeh, Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs, said the new wells will increase the field’s oil production by 40,000 bpd, in addition to the investment of gas associated with rates up to 20 million standard cubic feet of gas to be used as fuel for power plants.

New Drilling Contracts Awarded at Majnoon

Basra Oil Company (BOC) has signed two contracts for new drilling at the giant Majnoon oil field.

China’s Hilong Oil Service & Engineering Company is to drill 80 oil wells at a cost of $54 million, while the Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) will drill 43 oil wells at a cost of $255 million.

Oil Minister Thamir al-Ghadhban said the contracts are part of BOC’s plan to increase the production at Majnoon to 400,000 barrels per day by 2022.

New Contract for Drilling 40 Wells at Majnoon

Iraq’s Basra Oil Company (BOC) has agreed a deal with the state-owned Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) to drill 40 new oil wells in the giant Majnoon oilfield.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Oil said the aim is to increase production at the field to 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) by 2021.

Reuters estimates current production at around 240,000 bpd.

INOC takes over 9 State Oil Companies

Oil Minister Jabar Ali al-Luaibi [Allibi, Luiebi] has transferred ownership of nine state-owned oil companies from the Ministry of Oil to the newly-created Iraqi National Oil Company (INOC).

The Minister is also the President of INOC.

The companies transferred to INOC ownership are:

  • Iraqi Oil Exploration Company
  • Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC)
  • State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO)
  • North Oil Company (NOC)
  • Midland (Middle) Oil Company
  • Basra Oil Company (BOC)
  • Dhi Qar Oil Company (DQOC)
  • Missan Oil Company (MCO)
  • Iraqi Oil Tankers Company (IOTC)

IBN Expert Blogger Ahmed Mousa Jiyad has described the new company as “dysfunctional, unconstitutional and disintegrative“.
