The Iraqi Oil Tankers Company (IOTC) has confirmed that it plans to increase the size of its fleet.
The company’s general manager, Ahmed Khazal, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it will both build and buy new tankers.
IOTC currently owns four tankers.

The Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has announced that Burj Al Hayat Transport and Trading Company has been awarded a tender to transport Iraqi crude oil to Jordan.
The company will be responsible for transporting 10,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Iraq’s Baiji oil refinery to Jordan’s Petroleum Refinery Company in Zarqa, covering 7 percent of the Kingdom’s daily demand with a discount of $16 from the price of Brent crude per barrel.
“The door-to-door shipping process begins in the coming two weeks, with 50 percent of daily imports transported via Iraqi and Jordanian tanker trucks,” according to a statement by the Ministry.

Two oil tankers owned by the State Company for Maritime Transport (SCMT) have been transferred from Jordanian registration to registration in the Iraqi port of Basra, following the lifting of sanctions.
Iraqi Transport Minister, Captain Nasser Hussain Bandar Al-Shibli [Captain Nasser Hussein Bandar Al-Shibli], raised the Iraqi flags on the vessels, the Al-Asma’i and the Al-Qurna, at a ceremony at the port of Umm Qasr on Sunday.

Iran’s minister of interior unveiled plans to shut the border with Iraq in the southwestern province of Khuzestan in order to contain a new wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said the Coronavirus Fight National Headquarters has made new decisions to control the coronavirus in Khuzestan province, where the number of COVID-19 cases has risen in recent days.
He said the border crossings with Iraq are going to be closed and travels between cities in the Khuzestan province will be prohibited.
He also expressed hope that cooperation from people would help control the situation in Khuzestan ahead of the new Iranian year’s holidays.
Officials have warned that the coronavirus has begun to spread rapidly in Khuzestan, stressing the need for new travel bans and strict control at the border.
Several cities in the southwestern Iranian province have been categorized as red zones with high risk of infection.

Iraq has reportedly taken delivery of its first batch of rail tankers from Turkey.
According to Daily Sabah, the first 50 units, manufactured by Cryocan, were sent by truck, with a further 400 units still to be made.
The tankers will be used by Iraq Republic Railways (IRR) to transport oil and fuel.
