Transporter Named for Iraqi Oil Exports to Jordan

The Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has announced that Burj Al Hayat Transport and Trading Company has been awarded a tender to transport Iraqi crude oil to Jordan.

The company will be responsible for transporting 10,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Iraq’s Baiji oil refinery to Jordan’s Petroleum Refinery Company in Zarqa, covering 7 percent of the Kingdom’s daily demand with a discount of $16 from the price of Brent crude per barrel.

The door-to-door shipping process begins in the coming two weeks, with 50 percent of daily imports transported via Iraqi and Jordanian tanker trucks,” according to a statement by the Ministry.

New COVID-19 Guidelines for Travelers by Iraqi Kurdistan

In accordance with the global response against COVID-19 and the cautious lifting of restrictions, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Health has updated official guidelines for travel to the Kurdistan Region.

Taking into consideration the public interest and the government’s ongoing efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19, travelers entering the Kurdistan Region by land or air no longer have to undergo a COVID-19 test upon arrival if:

  1. They can produce an official negative COVID-19 test, taken within the last 48 hours prior to their arrival.
  2. They hold official proof of vaccination, confirming they have received both doses of immunization against COVID-19.

Iraqi Tankers Re-Registered in Umm Qasr

Two oil tankers owned by the State Company for Maritime Transport (SCMT) have been transferred from Jordanian registration to registration in the Iraqi port of Basra, following the lifting of sanctions.

Iraqi Transport Minister, Captain Nasser Hussain Bandar Al-Shibli [Captain Nasser Hussein Bandar Al-Shibli], raised the Iraqi flags on the vessels, the Al-Asma’i and the Al-Qurna, at a ceremony at the port of Umm Qasr on Sunday.

Daily coronavirus cases are approaching historical highs in the autonomous part of northern Iraq as vaccination efforts proceed at a crawl.

Coronavirus: Iran to Shut Border with Iraq

Iran’s minister of interior unveiled plans to shut the border with Iraq in the southwestern province of Khuzestan in order to contain a new wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said the Coronavirus Fight National Headquarters has made new decisions to control the coronavirus in Khuzestan province, where the number of COVID-19 cases has risen in recent days.

He said the border crossings with Iraq are going to be closed and travels between cities in the Khuzestan province will be prohibited.

He also expressed hope that cooperation from people would help control the situation in Khuzestan ahead of the new Iranian year’s holidays.

Officials have warned that the coronavirus has begun to spread rapidly in Khuzestan, stressing the need for new travel bans and strict control at the border.

Several cities in the southwestern Iranian province have been categorized as red zones with high risk of infection.

Iraq receives First Batch of Turkish Rail Tankers

Iraq has reportedly taken delivery of its first batch of rail tankers from Turkey.

According to Daily Sabah, the first 50 units, manufactured by Cryocan, were sent by truck, with a further 400 units still to be made.

The tankers will be used by Iraq Republic Railways (IRR) to transport oil and fuel.

Iraq closes land borders, restaurants with new anti-virus measures

The Iraqi government announced a series of strict measures to combat COVID-19 on Tuesday.

All land border crossings, restaurants and malls will be closed for two weeks starting on Thursday, the federal government announced on Twitter.
